Tower Access
Current status of the project - January 24th 2012
The tower access to the parapet is, probably, the original ladder and therefore dates from the mid 1920's. It is now designated as unsafe by both our architect in the 2011 Quinquennial Report and by the Archdeacon during his visitation last Autumn.
The project has been discussed and debated at PCC for some time, the outcome of which is that the PCC resolved to replace the ladder with a safe, robust and long-lasting stairway enabling both safe access to the tower parapet for maintenance purposes and flag raising but also that offered the opportunity to allow "Tower Tours" on a limited, controlled basis at the discretion of the PCC.
Drawings and a specification for builders to tender against are now available, it is the aim of the Fabric Committee and the PCC to complete the project as soon as is feasible.
